Forms care

Caring for your form ensuring longevity

Your new form from Resinum is a valuable tool deserving of proper maintenance to uphold its lasting performance. Follow these steps to preserve its functionality over time:

  • Do not overheat your pour

In case you wanted to use resin for thin castings and poured too thick a layer then overheating of the casting may occur. This can cause damage to mold components - bending, deformation of the walls and especially the base of the mold.

If you do not have resin available for deep casting, the best solution is to pour in layers.

The technical data sheet or instructions for a given epoxy resin specify the maximum layer that can be poured at once, as well as the maximum or optimal pouring temperatures.

Strictly follow the recommendations of the manufacturer of the epoxy resin, e.g. do not reduce or increase the amount of hardener added to the resin.

In case your form gets deformed check our maintenance section for more information.

  • Mold release / separator

HDPE material naturally fends off sticky substances and prevents resin from forming chemical bonds with its surface.

Even it is safe to use it without any separators it's strongly recommended to incorporate a Mold Release when using our forms. The corrosive nature of epoxy resin can cause minute pitting in the plastic, potentially leading to resin adhesion and complicating the form's usability. In the worst case, a situation can occur when a piece of the casting detaches from the casting and remains glued to just such a mold surface.

However, if there is damage to the surface of the mold (scratches, cavities) check our maintenance section - there you will find a method to solve this problem.

To address this, we provide suggested Mold Release options in our shop accessories section. It's imperative to steer clear of spray releases as they may hinder achieving comprehensive coverage on the pour surface. Always adhere strictly to the manufacturer's guidelines and instructions for your chosen Mold Release to ensure optimal performance.

  • Peripheral silicone seal

Our form features a robust red, press-fit gasket designed to seal effectively. However, over time, the corrosive properties of resin can degrade it. To prolong its lifespan, we apply a layer of silicone grease during manufacturing. Should the gasket seem dry or worn, you can reapply this silicone grease. Find the same grease we use in our shop on our main page. Replacement red silicone gasket material is also available from our shop accessories section if needed.

  • Store your molds

After cleaning, it's advisable to store your molds in a cool and dust-free setting. You can either wrap them in protective covers or place them in designated storage containers to shield them from dust and other particles. Avoid storing in places where it can be easily scratched like corridors, often sliding shelves, drawers with other sharp, metal or moving elements.

  • Mistakes to avoid

Steer clear of these common errors:

    1. Using abrasive cleaners or scrubbers.
    2. Avoid placing the mold in the freezer to hasten the drying process.
    3. Pouring resin on threads or connecting bolts

By adhering to these straightforward guidelines, you can effectively preserve your form and relish its enduring advantages. For any queries, feel free to contact us via email at info@resinum.eu or via contact form below.
